Programme profile
This is the programme for you, if you enjoy discussing topical issues in science and society and wan to know more about their historical context, or about alternative conceptions used in different cultures? The programme features Western philosophy as well as philosophies from India, East Asia, and the Arab world, making the programme unique in the Netherlands, and one of the few such programmes worldwide.

Programme content
In Year 1, you will acquire the basics. Subjects include Ethics, Metaphysics, Arabic Philosophy, Ancient Philosophy, Epistemology, and Comparative Philosophy.
In Year 2 you will build on the foundation acquired in your first year. You will study subjects such as Chinese Philosophy, Concepts of Selfhood, and Political Philosophy. In your second you take taking a minor or elective courses at your own discretion, do an internship, or studying abroad.
In your third year you will take part in five advanced philosophy modules of your own choice, typically with student presentations and a final paper based on a research proposal of your own design. Writing your bachelor’s thesis in the final semester will be your capstone project.

Six subjects at Leaving Certificate including 3 at Higher level. Minimum points: 440. (Note: some LC subjects are deemed not sufficiently academic by Leiden are not counted. Check with EUNiCAS)
